During a ratings month like November, the television networks feature their best stars and shows of the season. This month, the night sky also puts on one of its best celestial shows as the two brightest planets, Venus and Jupiter, put on a spectacular performance in the evening sky after sunset.
The dazzling duo has lit up a normally lackluster autumn sky this year. Venus, shining at a brilliant -4 magnitude, and Jupiter, at -2 magnitude, have taken center stage in the southwestern sky.
The duo is also headed for a spectacular close encounter on Nov. 30 when they pull within 2 degrees of each other. But that's not the end of the show. Stargazers have to stay tuned to the sky the next evening as the crescent moon joins the twosome for a spectacular triple conjunction.
Venus and Jupiter are separated by about 20 degrees tonight. However, the gap between the dazzling worlds will close by about 1 degree each evening until month's end.
