Minor leakage reported in new rail tunnel
Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Minor leakage has occurred at the north end of the new underground rail transit tunnel, Port Authority officials said yesterday.

Groundwater has occasionally seeped in between the 4-foot-long circular segments of the tunnel, spokesman David Whipkey said. The segments were plugged by injecting additional concrete grout around the exterior of the tunnel walls.

"The seepage is minor and no cause for concern," he said.
