Wednesday, August 06, 2008
The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:
'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2'

Rated: PG-13.

Suitable for: Tweens and up.

What you should know: This is a sequel to "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," a 2005 movie based on the Ann Brashares novels of the same name. It returns America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn as Bethesda, Md., friends who find a pair of jeans that magically fit each of them. In this movie, largely based on the book "Forever in Blue," they start to drift apart as they deal with broken hearts, the loss of virginity and possibility of pregnancy, and try to figure out whom and what they want.

Language: "Jesus" and "hell," each a few times.

Sexual situations and nudity: A male model poses nude in an art class but is discreetly photographed. A college student and her boyfriend kiss and, in a move conveyed by few words, decide to have sex for the first time. Their coupling is not shown, but the young man later realizes the condom broke, triggering panic. An older woman is in labor as she delivers a baby in a carefully choreographed scene.

Violence/scary situations: Recollections of a troubled woman who later committed suicide, and some tumbles that prove to be mild or played for laughs.

Drug or alcohol use: Two college students share some wine.
