The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful
Bill Nunn comes home, Obama comes between and J.Lo grows
Tuesday, December 18, 2007

The immensely talented actor and Pittsburgh native Bill Nunn was back home in The 'Burgh yesterday at a Christmas party for Pittsburgh Community Services Inc. at the Hill House in the Hill District.

His work has been so diverse and has spanned enough decades that the folks lining up to get his autograph ranged from the senior citizens who were there to the teens, who probably know him from the "Spider-Man" trilogy. Of course, the folks in between love him from his roles as Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" and Duh Duh Man, the stuttering gangster in "New Jack City," among others.

Mr. Nunn is the star of a recent public-service announcement for PCS Inc., which provides counseling and tutoring for youth, employment services, GED preparation, etc. He got that gig after his cousin introduced him to the group's executive director, Cecelia Jenkins. Bill, who is in the TV version of "A Raisin in the Sun" with Phylicia Rashad airing in February, plans to spend more time in his hometown, he said.

That's because of a program he's working on with Point Park University, to bring theater to disadvantaged students in the region.

"I'm using their students to develop shows based on the concerns and needs and ideas of young people," he said. The first production is called "Anansi and the Glue Man" and will debut in February. Workshops will be included with each production, he said.

As a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, he said he stumbled into acting after considering political science and then majoring in English.

"I didn't know what the heck I wanted to do really," he said. "When I got that theater bug that was my heart. That's what I found I had a passion for."

Is Sen. Barack Obama coming between Oprah and her longtime beau, Stedman Graham?

You know we don't know, but MSNBC is citing a National Enquirer cover story that states the couple have been feuding about all the attention Lady O's been giving the senator.

Word is Steddy is jealous and feels his lady love no longer finds him interesting. The couple, reportedly, has sought counseling.

We're still trying to figure out what's up with Michael Jackson's face. Actually, we've been trying to figure that out for a while now.

But new photos of MiJack with tiny bandages all over his nose and the lower half of his face are all over the Internet.

He was in a bookstore in Las Vegas shrouded in some kind of black scarf with a bucket hat on top of that.

Maybe his face is just finally collapsing. There can't be too much left to hold it up.

Jennifer Lopez is said to be ecstatic about her pregnancy. But the weight gain? Not so much. Quite frankly, what woman is?

According to MSNBC's Scoop, La Lopez plans to lie low until after the baby is born.

Mischa Barton is moving up to the big leagues, getting her turn at bat in a film being directed by Morgan Freeman, reports Page Six. Oops, not that Morgan Freeman, but Morgan J. Freeman.

MB will be playing a psychologically unbalanced ex-girlfriend in "Homecoming," now filming in Western Pennsylvania.

Speaking of JLo, her "Wedding Planner" co-star Matthew McConaughey scratched up his pretty face while training for his next film role as an ultimate fighter.

The film has the unfortunate name of "The Grackle." Now that has "I Am Legend" box-office numbers written all over it.

Anyway, his rep released a statement Monday about what happened after paps got photos of Matt Mac with a bandage over his left eye, reports TMZ.

"Heroes" hottie Ali Larter just got an engagement ring from her strapping beau, actor Hayes MacArthur, reports People.

No wedding date has been set yet, but girlfriend sounds like she can't wait.

"I told my boyfriend after three weeks that I wanted to marry him and that we could do it tomorrow," she said. "I look forward to that time when I'm home with babies."

We sure hope it all works out for you, girl.

Jay-Z is moving from music mogul to hotelier with the planned development of a new 150,000-square-foot hotel in Manhattan.

It's supposed to be the flagship for a chain of luxury hotels in other cities.

The GBB wants to give a shout out to homegirl Kendra Ross, who's been doing big things in '07.

Kendra, who's from Green Tree but now lives in NYC, released her first CD, "New Voice," in June and has garnered lots of accolades.

You know our colleague Nate Guidry reviewed it earlier this year.

Anyway, the CD has been on the Top 10 Album Chart of SoulTracks.com for three months and counting; it was featured on BET.com's Listen Up page. And listen to this, it's going to be released in Japan this winter and in Europe next year.

In addition to being a recording artist, Miss Ross is an accomplished theater performer and was part of the national touring company of "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and has played Carnegie Hall.

Kendra, you go, girl! Just keep doing what you do!
